Christmas Album was released at the end of November, 1981. Originally planned as Liz Mitchell's first solo album, plans changed after the album Boonoonoonoos got a lukewarm reception, and it was released as a Boney M. album in order to strengthen the commercial position of Boney M, which was in decline.

The album contains an edited version of the 1978 smash hit Mary's Boy Child, and provided Boney M. with 2 further single releases, Little Drummer Boy, which made the top 20 in Germany and Zion's Daughter, released at Christmas 1982, complete with a photo of Liz Mitchell, Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams alonf with Reggie Tsiboe (who had replaced Bobby Farrell) on the cover. By the end of 1983 the album had spawned a further 3 singles - Feliz Navidad in Scandinavia, Jingle Bells & White Christmas in Spain.
